Porcelain Dance
One of my all time mushroom photos, taken in 2025. I took this photo in my favourite forest on the Dutch Veluwe 'Het Speulderbos' . This forest is already very beautiful by itself, but in autumn the mushrooms give it an extra dimension. I always challenge myself to take spectacular mushroom photos with my wide angle lens. By getting very low and close to the mushrooms you can get some amazing results.
For this photo, I put my camera all the way to the ground (yes, in the dirt) and photographed these porcelain mushrooms from below. Because of the light coming from the top, it looks like they're glowing. On that particular morning the light was perfect. Very subtle light, high humidity, fog, made the forest atmosphere beautiful by itself. When I found this composition I knew I had something special.
This shot was awarded in multiple famous photo competitions, 1st prize in the 'Low Land Photo Contest' 2025, and second in the 'International Photographer of the Year' in 2025.
