The Lighthouse Eclipse

On 12 August 2026 a total solar eclipse crossed Spain at sunset. I photographed it from the coast of Menorca, where the eclipsed sun came down right above the lighthouse of Favàritx, just minutes before it disappeared into the sea.

An eclipse this low on the horizon is very rare. The sun was only a few degrees above the water, glowing deep orange through the haze while the moon slid in front of it. A moment of just a few seconds, planned months in advance.
